Meet Your Therapist...

Chad A. Elms, PT, OCS, FAAOMPT

"Using the most advanced techniques available in our field, I want each person to reach his or her goals as quickly and efficiently as possible."

AN EDUCATION FOUNDED IN EXCELLENCE
I believe the key to providing quality physical therapy begins with a solid education. To achieve this, I attended a well-respected physical therapy school and continued to advance my knowledge in an extensive manual therapy program. I know the more I learn, the more efficient and effective I can be in getting my patients back to a healthier, more enjoyable lifestyle. An expansive and ongoing education allows me to do that.

LICENSURE IN PHYSICAL THERAPY: Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners

MPT: Master of Physical Therapy, University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX

BS: Bachelor of Science, Health Care Sciences, University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, TX

FELLOW: American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists

OCS: Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist

MEMBER: American Physical Therapy Association, Texas Physical Therapy Association

AN ONGOING QUEST FOR KNOWLEDGE
My education did not stop when I graduated from physical therapy school. I completed a two-and-a-half-year manual therapy residency program to learn the most advanced hands-on and cutting-edge techniques available in my field and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (FAAOMPT), an honor shared by about 400 therapists in the nation. Research confirms the effectiveness of manual therapy for patients with a variety of diagnoses. Manual therapy, when compared to conventional physical therapy techniques: 1) has proven to be more cost-effective, 2) results in more rapid improvement in functional status, 3) has greater patient satisfaction, 4) requires less ongoing pain management interventions, 5) results in less functional disability and 6) results in a faster return to work.

SERVING MY COMMUNITY
Growing up in a small town, I know how involved the residents of the community are in local events and functions. As a physical therapist and resident of this community, I strive to maintain that involvement. My goal is to give back to a community that has already given me so much. I have done guest lecturing at the University of Texas Health Science Center as well as within the community. I have been a mentor to physical therapy and local high-school students as well as volunteers interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy. I have volunteered at several events such as the San Antonio Ballet and local sports clinics in the community. My involvement in the community will reflect my mission in life and work: Treat others as you want to be treated.
